The Building Department is responsible for the maintenance and enforcement of local building, planning and zoning codes. Structural, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical inspectors are supervised by the Building Commissioner. Their function is to ensure
safe and efficient construction adhering to construction and city codes. The Building Department reviews use and appropriateness on business licensing. They also supervise work with the health department pertaining to local businesses regarding code enforcement.

All renovations, additions, and structural changes require building permits for New Construction, Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Districts. Contractors must have a license with the Village of Bridgeview along with a $10,000.00 surety bond, certificate of insurance for liability, and workmen’s compensation showing the Village of Bridgeview as the certificate holder.

The Village of Bridgeview adopted codes are as follows:

• 2000 International Building Code
• 2000 International Mechanical Code
• City of Chicago Electrical Code
• City of Chicago Plumbing Code
